Introducing Kaw Dai High School

Kaw Dai High School, also known as the National School, was established in 2006 with the mission of providing education and skills to children affected by war, particularly orphans and those from impoverished backgrounds. The school primarily serves children from over 200 villages along the Salween River in Myanmar.

Background and Objectives

Originally founded as a community-owned boarding school in the former area of the Shan State Army Brigade No. 7, Kaw Dai High School aimed to offer shelter and basic education to internally displaced persons (IDP) children. Over the years, it has gained recognition among parents in Shan State, evolving into a model national school for the Shan community. Currently, the school accommodates approximately 270 students, having expanded from its initial capacity of 20-30 pupils in a small classroom setting.

Curriculum and Learning Environment

Classes at Kaw Dai High School run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays. The school employs its own curriculum, which includes subjects such as:

• Dai Literacy

• History

• Geography

• Mathematics

• General Science

• English (four skills)

• Thai and Myanmar languages

• Life Skills Education In addition to academic subjects, students are provided opportunities to learn practical skills during weekends and free time. These skills include:

• Teamwork

• Organic Farming

• Traditional Handicrafts and Cooking

• Music and Traditional Dances

• Basic Nursing (First Aid)
